Calculate the difference between two measurement values

A difference tells how far apart two measurement values are.

So take the largest measurement value and subtract the smallest measurement value from it.

The difference gets the same unit as the measurement values.

  1. Choose the largest and smallest measurement value
Determine which measurement value is the largest and which is the smallest.
  2. Subtract the smallest from the largest
The difference is the largest value minus the smallest value.
What is the difference between 19,8 °C and 23,5 °C?
  1. Choose the largest and smallest measurement value
    Largest: 23,5 °C. Smallest: 19,8 °C.
  2. Subtract the smallest from the largest
    23,5 - 19,8 = 3,7 °C.
