Theory

How do you calculate percentage decrease?
Oud en nieuw vergelijken01530456060oud45nieuw

With percentage decrease, you look at how much has been taken away.

You always compare that decrease with the starting value, because the starting value is 100%.

Divide the decrease by the starting value and then multiply by 100.

  1. Subtract the new value from the starting value.
  2. Use the decrease as the part and the starting value as the whole.
60 becomes 45. By what percentage has this decreased?
  1. Calculate how much has been taken away
    60 - 45 = 15.
  2. Compare the decrease 15 with the starting value 60.
