Reading a scale
You read a scale by looking at how much one small tick mark is worth.
Start at the known value and count how many small tick marks further the pointer is.
Multiply the number of steps by the step size and add that to the starting value.
- Read the scale informationRead the starting value and the value of one small tick mark.
- Count the stepsCount how many steps you move on from the starting value.
- Calculate the value readStarting value plus the number of steps times the step size.
A scale starts at 10 N. The pointer is 4 small tick marks further. Each tick mark is 0,5 N. What value do you read?
- Read the scale informationStart at 10 N. Each small tick mark is 0,5 N.
- Count the stepsThe pointer is 4 small tick marks further.
- Calculate the value read10 + 4 × 0,5 = 12 N.
