A decimal number and a fraction can describe the same value.

Look at how many digits there are after the decimal point. With 1 digit, use tenths; with 2 digits, hundredths; and with 3 digits, thousandths.

Write the decimal number as a fraction and then simplify the fraction if you can.

  1. Write the decimal number as a fraction
Use 10, 100, or 1000 as the denominator, depending on the number of digits after the decimal point.
  2. Find the divisors of both numbers, compare them, and choose the greatest common divisor.
  3. Divide the numerator by the greatest common divisor.
  4. Divide the denominator by the same divisor.
  5. Write down the fraction
Write the simplified numerator and denominator as a fraction.
